Overview

Can you name the Ten Commandments? Can you give the scriptural basis for Purgatory or explain why we believe that God consists of three divine persons? The answers to these and other Catholic questions will be answered in a six-week program called ‘Why Catholic?’ that our parish will be conducting in September and October. It will be an educational apologetics course taught in small groups across our parish, our diocese, and the USA. What does it do?

The benefits of Why Catholic? are many:

Fosters the goals of Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us, the landmark U.S. Bishops' pastoral plan for adult faith formation.

Offers a concrete approach to help adults deepen their Catholic faith and connect its teachings to their everyday lives. 
• Thorough exploration of Catholic teaching,with direct Catechism quotes, scriptural references, and reflection questions 
• Includes 48 sessions on Catholic beliefs, sacraments, morality, and prayer 
• Occurs in a prayerful small community setting

Provides a total parish experience suited for… 
• small Christian communities

Key dates for Why Catholic at OLOT:
• July 18 & 19th Masses – We will hand out flyers and signup sheets after each Mass. 
• August 22 – Commitment day for small community leaders
• August 29 & 30 – “Sign up Sunday” – presentation at each Mass, followed by sign up sheets and brochures after Mass in front of church
• August 31 through Sept. 5 – Training classes at 5 diocese locations for parish team and small community leaders. Here’s the link
• Sept 13 through 19 – Week 1 of 6 weeks small community meetings. Participants meet for the first time and receive books from small community leaders.
• October 18 through 24 – Week 6 of the 6-week program. Small Community Leaders hand out certificates of completion. Recap meeting with parish team and all leaders to be announced.
